Keeping the Floors Clean
If you ask the owner of Bluestone Laundromats what the most important part of the facilities is you will get a simple answer: “the floors”. If you just finished washing your clothes and drop one of the clean items on a dirty floor then somehow it does not feel as clean anymore. And inevitably everyone drops an item sometimes when pulling laundry from the washers or dryers. The dirtier the floors the worse you will feel about that dropped item.
Certainly it is not possible to keep the floors squeaky clean all of the time. It sometimes feels like five minutes after the floors have been cleaned that they are dirty again. Seasonally it is very hard to keep the floors clean during winter or rainy times of the year. And on busy days it is downright impossible if five or six people are using the facility at a time. However, otherwise we strive to stay on top of the floors.
The laundromats get cleaned several times per day and a key focus is the floors. First, the staff sweeps up any loose dirt or garbage. Then the floors are cleaned using ammonia. Ammonia is the recommended cleaner for the laminate floors that we have. And once or twice per week we polish the floors to give them a nice shine.
Because of the amount of traffic using the facility it can be difficult to keep it clean all of the time. However, several times per day you will see the staff toiling to freshen it up. The owner’s favorite time to inspect the laundromat is late morning when the crew has just finished mopping and the last bits of cleaner are evaporating into the air. The floors never feel cleaner than they do at that exact time.
